The announcement was made on the company’s official blog, detailing the new user interface, redesigned menus, and better password generation for 1Password 8. The redesign changes categories to a dropdown menu, giving more room to the sidebar and avoiding clutter. Indicators will be to the side of each shared vault to let users know which are private and which are shared. Drag-and-drop will now be a feature to move items from one vault to another, and the browser also will show who will gain access before moving data. Data management also has been improved with Quick Find and Collections. Quick Find allows users to quickly search for certain items, vaults, and tags, while Collections pools those aspects into one location. The Watchtower feature has been revamped to give users an overview of the security system and show where any weak points are. Any accounts with weak passwords can be quickly remedied by using the new password generator and smart suggestions. 1Password is strengthening its security with advanced MFA options and secure remote passwords, too. Touch ID is also available for quick unlocking, with plans to add Face ID support sometime soon. The last major change coming with the update is a data recovery feature. Users will be able to recover drafts, restore recently deleted data, and even revert items back to a previous version. 1Password 8 is the first major update the service has had on Mac in over three years. This new version of the service is in early access and the company has provided detailed instructions on how to try out this upgrade. As for the update’s official release, 1Password has yet to set a date.
